PERSONAL: Born Gina Jenkins on July 16, 1975 in Flint, Mich. ... Parents are Howard "Jim" Jenkins, Jr. (deceased) and Janice Atchley Doty... Gina's brothers are Kelly Goodknecht, Ed Jenkins and Shawn Matz. Gina's sisters are Kim Hoffman, Lori Goodknecht and Lee Owings... Gina's children are Jamie McWilliams and Jonah McWilliams... Gina is a coach for the Ignite Volleyball Club and serves as the middle school volleyball coach at American Heritage Academy. She also works as a substitute teacher and motivational speaker... Gina lost her right leg below the knee in an automobile accident at age 25 (1990). Her left foot was severed and reattached. Since the accident, she had 37 different surgical procedures... Gina won a silver medal in wheelchair basketball at the 1999 Parapan American Games and competed on the women's wheelchair basketball team in 1995-2000... Gina enjoys spending time with family and friends and going to church along with reading, sports, music, movies and the outdoors... Among her favorite movies are Remember the Titans, Hitch, A Knight's Tale, Notting Hill, Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile and Hoosiers.
MAJOR INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION: 2010 - Helped the U.S. Women's Sitting Team in winning silver at the Sitting Volleyball World Championships in Oklahoma... Gina contributed on the U.S. Women’s Sitting Team that won gold at the Parapan American Championship (Colorado)… Gina also contributed to the U.S. Women’s Sitting Team who won the World Organization for Volleyball Disabled (WOVD) World Cup (Egypt)…2009 - U.S. Women’s Sitting Team won Parapan American Zonal Championship (Montreal)… also was a member of the U.S. Women’s Sitting Team that won gold at the Eurocup (Netherlands)... 2008 - Paralympic Games in Beijing (silver medal)... World Organization Volleyball for Disabled (WOVD) Intercontinental Cup in Ismailia, Egypt (bronze medal)... 2004 - Served as the team captain at the Paralympic Games in Athens (bronze medal)... 2003 - Para Pan American Games in Mar del Plata, Argentina (gold medal). Gina has also played in several exhibition matches, both international and domestic, with the U.S. team.
INTERNATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS: 2010 - Gina played in seven sets for the U.S. Women and posted three service aces, 0.43 per set, and three kills, 0.43 per set. She also added five digs, 0.29 per set. 2009- Gina was awarded along with team as the Paralympians of the Year for 2008... 2008- Gina helped the U.S. to a silver medal at the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing... Totaled seven points (three kills, three blocks, one ace) while appearing in three matches... Played in seven of 17 sets for the U.S. including two sets each in matches against China and Latvia... Scored five of her seven points in the win over Latvia.
