PERSONAL: Born Micah Makanamaikalani Christenson on May 8, 1993 in Honolulu, Hawaii... Parents are Robert and Charlene Christenson... Has one sister, Joanna... Father played basketball at University of Hawaii-Hilo, and mother played volleyball at University of Hawa'i-Hilo where she won three national championships and was named a two-time All-American... Micah also plays basketball and his high school team won the state championship when he was a sophomore and reached the championship game again in 2010... He was named the 2010 Gatorade Hawaii Player of the Year and Interscholastic League of Honolulu Co-Player of the Year, and made the Honolulu Star Bulletin All-State Fab 15 team (and Co-Player of the Year) when he averaged 16.4 points and 7.3 rebounds. He made the 2009 Honolulu Advertiser All-State and Honolulu Star Bulletin All-State Fab 15 teams… Micah began playing club volleyball in 2005 with Asics Quicksilver Boys 13... Has played beach volleyball for three years... Favorite food is fried rice... Favorite book is the Bible... Favorite sports team is the Dallas Mavericks and favorite athlete is Larry Bird... Hobbies include basketball, volleyball and bodyboarding... Most admired people are his parents for "overcoming so much adversity and accomplishing so much."
INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION: 2011- Member of the U.S. Men's Junior National Team competing in the 2011 FIVB Men's Junior World Championship in Brazil... 2010 – NORCECA Men’s Junior Continental Championship (Gold Medal)… NORCECA Boys’ Youth Continental Championship (Silver Medal). 2009 – FIVB Boys’ Youth World Championship.
INTERNATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS: 2010 – Micah was named Best Setter of the NORCECA Men’s Junior Continental Championship in Gateneau, Quebec as the U.S. team finished first and qualified for the 2011 FIVB Men’s Junior World Championship… Finished tournament with 77 running sets and no faults on 208 attempts. He averaged 5.13 running sets per set. A running set is defined as a set from a player that puts their hitter against one blocker or none. Still sets happen when a player sets an attacker and there are two blockers or more… Micah was the team captain and starting setter for the U.S. Boys’ Youth Team that finished second to Cuba at the NORCECA Boys’ Youth Continental Championship in Guadalajara, Mexico… He finished fourth among all setters with 67 running sets and two faults on 272 attempts and an average of 4.47 running sets per set. He also scored 11 points on four kills and seven blocks. 2009 - Member of the Boys' Youth National Team that finished 10th at the FIVB Boys’ Youth World Championship and was named USA Volleyball’s 2009 Indoor Team of the Year… Youngest setter ever to play for the United States at a world championship… Micah finished 13th among all setters with 88 running sets and eight faults on 419 attempts and an average of 2.93 running sets per set in 14 sets played. He also scored 14 points on six kills, five blocks and three aces.
CLUB/PREP HIGHLIGHTS: 2010 – Micah’s Outrigger club team was the silver medalist at the 2010 USA Volleyball Boys’ National Championships in the Under-18 Open Gold Division and he made the All-Tournament team. 2008 – Named captain of the High Performance Select A1 Red Team in Tucson, Ariz. … Finished first in SCVA boys’ qualifier in California in the 17s Division... High school All-Conference team freshman and sophomore years... First team All-State sophomore year. Named Volleyball Magazine First Team High School All-American as a sophomore.
