Has a half-brother Dylan Gilbert-Vogel... Majoring in English... Started playing volleyball as a high school sophomore... Enjoys volleyball because of the teamwork and intensity on the court... Chose UCLA because of "its incredible academics and athletics tradition," and its proximity to home... Favorite book is Stranger in a Strange Land... Enjoys spending time at the beach, playing guitar and piano and writing... Played with U.S. Men's Junior teammate Thomas Amberg during his senior year at Valhalla... Nick would eventually like to teach English abroad.
INTERNATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS: 2011 - Member of the U.S. Pan American Games Team that competed in Guadalajara, Mexico. 2009 - Member of the U.S. Men's Junior National Team that finished eighth at the FIVB World Championship.
COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS: 2011- Played in 16 matches with eight starts for UCLA… scored a season-high of 11.5 points vs. LBS… Averaged .9 blocks per set (bps) and 2.3 points per set (pps). 2010- Saw playing time in 28 matches with 25 starts… led the Bruins in blocking averaging 1.1 bps. 2009 – Played in 29 matches and started in 20 as a freshman… hit .400 or better 11 times, good for best on the team… tied for the team lead with 23 aces.
CLUB/PREP HIGHLIGHTS: 2008 - Served as team captain during his final year... Won the Grossmont League South Division and advanced to quarterfinals of the CIF tournament... Earned CIF Division II first-team honors his senior year... Earned a silver medal at the 2008 Jr. Olympics, where he also earned all-tournament team honors. 2006 - Began playing club volleyball with Epic 16s.
