Brenda Maymon's Paralympic Report for Sept. 14, 2008
by BJ Evans / September 14, 2008
Our team is in unchartered water after our win against the Netherlands 2 days ago. It was the first time Team USA has won against them in official competition. It felt great – I’m sure it felt very similar to winning a gold medal. We worked hard for that win and we deserved it. We out-worked the Dutch and the better team came out on top. Many of you may not know that the Netherlands, coming into the Paralympic Games, was number one, China number two, and Team USA number three.
As good as it felt to win against the Dutch, we still have to focus on our last match tonight against China. We played them in Day 2 of competition and lost to them. We have been focusing on watching that match and analyzing it. It will take the A-game of every player on our team to win, but it's not out of reach for us. The first time we played them the scores were 25-12, 25-21, and 25-19. Besides the first game, mostly due to nerves, we stayed right there with them and could have pulled off the win.
We hope to be able to say that we are gold medalist after tonight. Even if we don't come out on top, I want to be able to say that we did everything possible to win – that we played our hearts out. No regrets.
