USA v. Italia in Catania

CATANIA, Italy (June 21, 2009) - A packed house-standing room only-in Catania for the second match of this weekend's pair in Italy. The crowd is fantastic. They were all in here an hour before singing and dancing and fired up for the match.

USA started by playing their best of the 4 matches thus far in World League 2009. Set 1 was all good, but the 2nd set the level dropped off a bit for USA. The 3rd set was great and if you watch a couple of video clips on YouTube, you'll see the last two points and how much the crowd was into it. In the 4th USA did a great job and Evan Patak in particular had a great game-not just hitting, blocking and serving either-he had a couple of good first ball contacts that set up winning points for us.

Andy Hein has been as steady as can be in all four of these matches. He has a great presence at the net attacking and blocking. He looks like a veteran out there. He had a couple of very good sets in this match also.

The 4th set was pretty much all USA. A great road trip for a fairly young USA team against two very good opponents. A big congrats to the players and also to the GREAT staff of Alan Knipe, Gary Sato, John Hawkes, Chris Jackson and the invaluable Aaron Brock who is the best trainer a team could have.

Go USA!!
