First Time for Everything
Congratulations to the Capitol 18 Navy team, of Madison, Wisc., for placing fourth at the Northern Lights Qualifier and earning a bid to the GJNC. The team became the first Capitol team to ever qualify for an open division bid. Capitol Volleyball Academy is within the Badger Region and is directed by David Bayer. He is also the coach of the Capitol 18 Navy team heading to Atlanta, June 25th for nationals.
The last time an 18s team from the Badger Region qualified for Nationals in the Open Division was in 2003. The highest 18 Open finish at Nationals was a fifth-place by Milwaukee Sting in 1997. Ironically, Bayer coached that team.
