Girls' Youth Enjoy Fruits of First Win at NORCECA

Molly McCage and Angela Lowak
Tuesday, April 27, in Guatemala, the key to success is 11 hours of sleep! I (Angela Lowak) finished my book at seven in the morning and that was without forceful waking up. Then we had a late breakfast with delicious eggs and “gruel!” (which is this creamy sugary oatmeal tapioca stuff). Then we made a little pit-stop in and grabbed our bags. Then we were off to train.
The bus ride was gorgeous! We traveled from the inner city to the outskirts. The scenery was one of a kind. Everyone was fighting for a great view from the windows of the moving bus. Reppin the bus! Words of wisdom: if you drive a bus, LET PEOPLE ON!(: It was incredibly eye-opening! Cameras were flashing to get every angle of the beautiful scenery.
Eventually, we ended up at an all boys school for an hour and a half of training. It was intense and my (Molly McCage) ears kept popping because the high altitude! It was a weird feeling. The training was two words: informative and sweaty. As we got back to the hotel, we jammed to our ipods in our room and I (Molly) read about 30 pages in my book “Handle With Care.” And Angela finished up her psychology assignment and learned about physiological disorders. Interesting stuff, let me tell you.
LUNCH TIME! We had delicious tilapia (a Guatemalan specialty) and mixed rice that was to die for. The food here is great! Oh! And we were informed that we could drink the faucet water as well as brush our teeth, thankfully.
Back to the rooms, we put our feet up to release the toxins. (you should try it) and then... We had an intense photo shoot in our USA jerseys in our room! Mimi was posing it up! Then it was time to get serious. Game mode.
The Dominicans were our main focus. With the height and power that was delivered from them, we were able to stop them with our beastly blocking (Molly) –Angela, and off-the-wall defense (Haley). We defeated them 3-0! We ended it with a bowl of fruit waiting for us. The Guatemalans were so sweet to provide us with it! As we got to the bus Molly yelled out, “There’s a bug on Bugg!” haha. When we got back to the hotel we ate wonderful Guatemalan-style fajitas.
Off to bed! BUENOS NOCHES!
