Hard Work in Nagoya

It is late at night in Nagoya. The last match of this incredibly tough pool has been played. USA has qualified to be one of the last four teams standing with a chance to win the FIVB World Championship.
Tomorrow we will wake early and catch a bullet train to Tokyo. Joining us there will be three outstanding teams in Brazil, Russia and Japan. Our road to Tokyo has been difficult. We have played nine matches so far and have a record of 7-2. We only have two more matches left and if we can find a way to battle our way to two victories we will be World Champions.
Our first match is against Russia in a couple days. They are playing very well and have not lost a match in this tournament. We will have to play our best to win. Japan making the finals and being the host country should insure large vocal crowds at these final matches.
Our country should be very proud of our team. We are well-represented with an exceptional group of athletes who work hard and give everything they have every time they step on the floor. I have no doubt they will be ready to play on Saturday.
As for Nagoya, it will be bittersweet to leave this beautiful city behind in the rear view mirror. The people have been very nice to all of us and we will always be grateful for their hospitality. The baristas at Starbucks are even beginning to know our drinks by heart!
For now, it is time to pack our bags and get a good night's sleep. We have earned it. I will speak to you soon from Tokyo.
As always, Go USA!
