USA Wins Opener at Youth Olympics
by Rick Simpson / August 22, 2010
As expected the USA vs Belgium match was a heated one.
Before a sold out arena, I entered the stadium to a fanatic crowd screaming USA. USA. USA. Enough to send chills up your spine. As I made my way to the American parent section, I found comfort in my home away from home.
Our team came out on fire. 5-1 USA which forces the Belgium coach to call time out. The Belgium team may be big in the middle but they were quickly introduced to the Taylor Simpson, Liz McMahon and Crystal Graff trio, who at one point had three consecutive blocks in a single possesion.
As a parent, it was fantastic to see our girls pull together as a team. Our coaching staff performed like surgeons in a swiss watch factory. Substituting with timely accuracy and calling timeouts exactly to nix any feel of momentum movement to the Belgium side.
On to Egypt today at 3:30.
Good Luck USA..USA..USA..USA
