Day 3 at Boys' Youth Worlds- The Venue
by Dan Friend / August 19, 2011
Today was a relaxing day for the most part other than the travel to our playing venue, about an hour and a half away. We traveled in a double decker bus and our driver was pretty good about squeezing us through alley-size roadways. It had a unique smell to say the least and we got a good tour as well. The coaches killed some time by playing monopoly on Ken's new toy, his iPad 2. I didn't last long, never was good at real estate. I will let our guest player tonight Austin [Kingi] tell you a little more about the day for the players. As for us coaches we had a little down time, worked out a little, took a small tour of the city and I gave Rob [Neilson] a mock interview for his class. If you didn't know Rob got into the Executive MBA program at BYU and classes have started already so he will be playing catch up while he is here. It was fun to grill him with a few questions for sure, ha. I also tried some maté tea at a local cafe with Jonah [Carson] and it was just ok, unique for sure. Practice went good tonight and the guys look excited to play for sure. Tomorrow will be a long day for us with scouting starting at 8 a.m. and us being in the gym until the end of the day’s competition. We need to get a full day of scouting in so we can be prepared for our opponents. The first opponent will be Egypt and every match is key. On a side not I got to see The Godfather (Tom Tait) pepper with the guys, it was awesome!
Until tomorrow, GO USA !!!
