U.S. Throws Block Party in Rio
by U.S. Men's Junior National Team / August 05, 2011
Team USA can block!
What a display of disciplined team blocking demonstrated by our Junior National Team. Our block really changed the tone of the match after struggling early with passing and dropping the first set 22-25. The good news is we got a lot better In serve receive and let our athleticism do the talking.
A double-digit lead in sets three and four made Iran very quiet as their coach made numerous subs. Hawks made some subs as well with stellar play by Josh Taylor, Connor Olbright, Steve Kevorken and Brian Cook.
Twenty-two blocks later, USA had their first W in Round 2 of the Jr World Championships. Getting this win tonight makes us much more confident to play Spain and Russia in Pool E. If we can win one of the next two, we should be guaranteed a spot in the medal round, but you can't forget our set ratio! With guys like Dylan Davis racking up 6 blocks and controlling the net against Iran, our set and match ratio should be ok!
White unis vs. Spain tomorrow!
Time to break down Spain vs. Russia video.
The boys have a swagger about them! Four matches left.
