Day Two: Trujillo, Peru
We started off the day with a late breakfast followed by a walk to a nearby country club. We got to move around in the gym at the country club to kind of get used to the environment and loosen our bodies up after a long two days of traveling. The owner of the club took us on a little tour around the facilities. It was about a mile walk and we got to see some civilian life. After we got back to the hotel a couple of the girls went out back to play with the alpacas (llamas) that they keep on the grounds. We took some silly pictures, stepped in some llama poop (yes, it actually happened) and interacted with some of the other teams staying here.
We had our first practice in the playing gym today. The goal of the short practice was to get use to the atmosphere and playing in a different environment. The next time we step in the gym will be for our first match against Belgium so we don’t have a lot of time to acclimate. Practice was short; each team gets an hour and a half of court time. After practice we showered up and got to go on an excursion in downtown Trujillo. We had some picture taking opportunities and shop in the local stores where a few of us bought some bootleg videos for 2 sol, which is about one American dollar along with some fun llama key chains. Our journey was short so we headed back and got some dinner.
With that in mind, we are all back in our rooms settling down for the night. All of us are very excited for our first match tomorrow! It’s almost time to kick some Belgium tail. Till tomorrow America… Adios!
