Balboa Bay 17 QS Wins Open Division at Boys' JOs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 8, 2009) - The 17 Club and Open champions were crowned on the final day of the 30th USA Boys Junior Olympic Boys' Volleyball Championships, hosted by USA Volleyball at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

Approximately 385 boys' volleyball teams competed in the event, which ended Wednesday.

Teams from Southern California dominated the 17 Open Division final as Balboa Bay 17 Quiksilver defeated Epic 17-Jeff, 2-0 (25-14, 25-18) to take the title. 

In the bronze medal match, Riptides SB 17 Orange beat SCVC 17 QS, 2-1 (25-18, 19-25, 15-10).

The semifinals saw Balboa Bay 17 Quiksilver defeat SCVC 17 QS, 2-0 (25-21, 25-22) and Epic 17-Jeff take down Riptides SB 17 Orange, 2-0 (25-21, 25-21).

Calgary Elite West of Canada defeated Naranjito Envol out of Puerto Rico, 2-0 (25-23, 25-14) to claim the 17 Club Division crown. Pilipa'a 17s from the Moku O Keawe region of Hawaii defeated Vaqueros 17-1 of Puerto Rico, 2-0 (25-21, 25-22) for the bronze medal.

In the semifinals, Calgary Elite West beat Pilipa'a 17s, 2-0 (25-21, 25-18) and Naranjito Envol took down Vaqueros 17-1 , 2-1 (25-18, 20-25, 15-11).
