U.S. Women's Beach Teams Finish in Moscow

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 17, 2009) – The USA Volleyball women’s beach teams are finished at the 2009 Moscow Women’s Grand Slam, part of the SWATCH FIVB World Tour in Moscow, Russia.
The second-ranked team of Jen Kessy (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) and April Ross (Costa Mesa, Calif.) were upset in the second round by Austria’s 21st-seeded Doris and Stefanie Schwaiger, 1-2 (21-11, 19-21, 13-15) in 54 minutes.
Angie Akers (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Tyra Turner (Fort Meyers Beach, Fla.), ranked sixth, won their second-round match against Czeck Republic’s Hana Klapalova and Tereza Petrova, 2-0 (21-16, 21-11) in 32 minutes.
Akers and Turner had to forfeit their second-round match to third-seeded Juliana Felisberta Silva and Larissa Franca of Brazil due to injury.
Four U.S. men’s and four U.S. women’s teams are scheduled to compete in the next SWATCH FIVB World Tour Grand Slam tournament on July 20-26 in Marseilles, France.
