COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 23, 2009) – The USA Volleyball High Performance Championships, with a record 92 teams participating in the event at the Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center in Florida, concluded the second day of competition on Thursday.

USA Youth Red holds the top spot in the Women’s International Junior Division’s Pool A with a 4-0 record, one win better than Dominican Republic’s 3-1 record. Manitoba and Florida Region are 4-0 in division’s Pool B, one match ahead of Puerto Rico at 3-1.

USA Select White has won its two matches in the Girls’ Youth International Division Pool 1A second round, while Florida Region Red has won its only match in the pool. In Pool 1B second round, Intermountain Region holds the lead with a 2-0 record followed by USA Select Blue at 1-0. Puget Sound Region and Ohio Valley Region are both 1-0 in Pool 2A second round, while Badger Region and Italy’s Volleypro are 1-0 in Pool 2B.

USA Continental Youth Red and Sun Country Region lead Pool A of the Girls’ Youth National Bracket with 4-0 records. Lakeshore Region is in striking distance with a 3-1 record. In Pool B, Oklahoma Region is the only undefeated team with a 4-0 record. Florida Region Blue is challenging for the Pool B lead with a 3-1 record.

In the Girls’ National Select Division, Keystone Region has won all four of its Pool A matches. USA Continental Select White and Ohio Valley Region both have 3-1 records in Pool A. The Florida Region Red Team paces the division’s Pool B with a 4-0 record and is closely followed by second-place Iowa Region (3-1).

USA Youth White is 4-0 to lead the Boys’ International Youth Division Pool A. USA Youth Red and Aloha Region are currently 3-1 in Pool A. In the Boys’ International Youth Pool B, USA Youth Blue leads the pack of six teams with 4-0 record while USA Select Red is 3-1.

The Boys’ National Youth/Select Division has seen limited action through the first opening stages of the High Performance Championships. USA Continental Select Red leads Pool 1A by winning its only match. USA Select Blue leads Pool 1B with its one victory. Florida Region and USA Continental Select White are 1-0 in Pool 2.

Along with 27 teams from the USA Volleyball High Performance pipeline competing in the event, half of USA Volleyball’s 40 regions have sent Regional High Performance Teams to participate. Among the 20 USAV Regions participating are Aloha Region, Arizona Region, Badger Region, Carolina Region, Chesapeake Region, Florida Region, Garden Empire Region, Gulf Coast Region, Intermountain Region, Iowa Region, Iroquois Empire Region, Keystone Region, Lakeshore Region, Lone Star Region, Northern California Region, Ohio Valley Region, Oklahoma Region, Puget Sound Region, Southern California Region and Sun Country Region.

Four countries outside the United States are sending teams to compete in the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships including Dominican Republic, Canada (province teams of Nova Scotia, Alberta, Manitoba competing), Italy and Puerto Rico.

The USAV High Performance Championships continues through July 26. The finals for the Women’s International Junior Division, Girls’ International Youth Division, Boys’ International Youth Division and Boys’ National Youth/Select Division will be played July 25. The Girls’ National Youth Division and Girls’ National Select Division will wrap up the tournament with championships on July 26.
