Volleyball Players Support Chicago 2016 Bid

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sept. 25, 2009) – Three top U.S. volleyball players will be with the delegation that travels to Copenhagen, Denmark to lobby the International Olympic Committee members to award the 2016 Games to Chicago.
The IOC will choose from among Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo in a vote held on Oct. 2. Each city will give one final presentation prior to the vote.
Two-time Olympic beach volleyball gold medalist Kerri Walsh (Saratoga, Calif.), men’s indoor gold and bronze medalist Bob Ctvrtlik (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Paralympian Paul Moran (Chicago), a member of the 2004 U.S. Men’s Sitting Volleyball Team will travel with the delegation that will also include U.S. President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey.
Other gold medalists that will be part of the delegation are track stars Michael Johnson, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Michael Conley, Bryan Clay, Ron Freeman and Edwin Moses; gymnasts Nadia Comaneci, Nastia Liukin and Bart Conner; swimmers Donna de Varona and Gary Hall Jr.; soccer star Brandi Chastain and Paralympians April Holmes and Linda Mastandrea.
Several other volleyball players have already expressed their support for Chicago in videos posted to YouTube.
