U.S. Beach Teams Open NORCECA Tourney in Tijuana

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sept. 25, 2009) – The U.S. women’s beach volleyball team of Briana Hinga (San Diego, Calif.) and Laura Ratto (Oakland, Calif.) went 2-1 on Friday, the first day of the Baja California Beach Volleyball Tournament in Tijuana, the fifth stop of the 2009 NORCECA Circuit.

The U.S. men’s beach team of Ivan Mercer and Jason Wight fell to Canadians Ahren Cadieux-Martin Reader and Daniel Dearing-Chaim Schalk, 14-21. 14-21 in the Americans’ only match of the day.

Hinga and Ratto opened play on Friday by defeating Mexico’s No. 3 team, 21-16, 21-19. Next they beat  Nancy Joseph-Elki Phillip of Trinidad and Tobago, 21-8, 21-7. However they lost their final match of the day to Mexico’s Bibi Candelas-Mayra García and Diana Estrada-Martha Revueltas, 9-21, 11-21.

Play will continue on Saturday.
