USAV Offers Beach Coaching Courses at AVCA Convention

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 10, 2009) – USA Volleyball will be offering a Beach Coaching Accreditation Program (BCAP) along with its regular CAP courses in conjunction with the AVCA Annual Convention set for Dec. 16-19 at Tampa, Fla.

The BCAP courses will take place during the convention and on the Sunday following (Dec. 20).

Two levels of BCAP are available. The Level 1 Basic targets all beach/sand coaching and teaching levels, especially coaches who have had no or limited formal coaching education courses. All coaches must start with the Basic course to progress through the BCAP Accreditation Program system.

The emphasis of BCAP Basic is on teaching the skills of the game. Sessions include but are not limited to, practicum in Teaching the Fundamental Skills (with cadre feedback), Motor Skill Learning Theory, Coaching Principles/Foundations, Developing the Coaching Philosophy, the USAV Code of Ethics and Legal Duties, Drill Design and Implementation, Practice Preparation and Execution, Basic Offensive/Defensive/Serve Receive Organization Systems, etc.

The BCAP Level 1 Advanced is open to all coaches who have completed the USAV Beach Coaches Clinic, have coached at the professional level (AVP or FIVB) for at least one season, or have completed an FIVB beach certification.

The emphasis of BCAP Advanced is on teaching the skills of the game to experienced or elite athletes. Sessions include, but are not limited to, practicum in Teaching the Fundamental Skills (with cadre feedback), Motor Skill Learning Theory, Coaching Principles/Foundations, Developing the Coaching Philosophy, the USAV Code of Ethics and Legal Duties, Drill Design and Implementation, Practice Preparation and Execution, Basic and Intermediate Offensive/Defensive/Serve Receive Organization Systems, Scouting, Identifying the Beach Athlete, etc.
