COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 7, 2010) – Online registration is now open for the USA Volleyball Indoor High Performance Girls’ Tryout schedule that includes least 34 tryouts spread across the country.

The High Performance tryout schedule starts on Feb. 12 with evaluations taking place in three different cities. The final tryout is schedule for April 29 in Kansas City, Mo.

New for this year, the USA Volleyball Indoor High Performance Department has selected to support two cancer research and support organizations as part of the tryout season. Athletes can purchase a pink T-Shirt in support of breast cancer with proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. Athletes can purchase a light blue T-shirt in support of prostate cancer with proceeds going toward the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Pre-sale of the numbered tryout jerseys is $5 through the online registration. Both color T-shirts will be available for purchase at each tryout site for $10, but they will not be numbered for tryout participation. A total of $5 per shirt sold in online pre-sale and onsite purchases will be donated to the respective cancer foundations based on colored shirts sold.

“The USA Volleyball Indoor High Performance Department selected these two causes as an early awareness program among our youth athletes, as well as a way to support research for breast cancer and prostate cancer,” USA Volleyball Managing Director of Indoor High Performance Tom Pingel said. “Many young athletes have or are experiencing the aftermath of parents or other family dealing with such diseases, and this was a way for USA Volleyball to provide support in the fight against cancer.”

The tryout fee is $65 for online registration. Registration via fax or e-mail of scanned registration form costs $75. Online, mailed and faxed registration closes the fourth day prior to the tryout at midnight MST. For example, registration would close Wednesday at midnight for a tryout on Sunday. Walk-up registration costs $100 per athlete trying out, so register early for a $35 savings.

Refunds will be given for withdrawing from a tryout, less $20 for administrative cost. Athletes may attend more than one tryout. The full tryout fee applies to each tryout attended. The number of tryouts an athlete attends usually will not affect his or her evaluation; attending more than one tryout is recommended only if your first tryout performance was for some reason below your potential.
