COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 4, 2010) – The U.S. beach volleyball team of Jen Kessy and April Ross will compete in a four-team women’s beach volleyball tournament to celebrate the Bicentennial of Mexican Independence on March 5-7 in Puerto Vallarta.
Kessy (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) and Ross (Costa Mesa, Calif.) won the 2009 FIVB World Championship along with 2009 SWATCH FIVB World Tour events in Marseille, France and Phuket, Thailand. They were named USA Volleyball’s Beach Team of the Year.
The other three teams expected to compete are Canada’s Marie Lessard and Annie Martin, Bibi Candelas and Mayra Garcia of Mexico and Yarleen Santiago and Dariam Acevedo of Puerto Rico. The tournament has a prize purse of $10,000.
The organizers have built a temporary 2,500-seat facility adjacent to the Grand Velas & Spa Hotel in front of Banderas Bay.

May-Treanor in Running for Kids’ Choice Award
U.S. beach volleyball player and two-time Olympic gold medalist Misty May-Treanor has been nominated for a nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award in the category of Best Female Athlete.
She is up against race car driver Danica Patrick and tennis players Venus and Serena Williams.
