COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 12, 2010) – The U.S. men’s beach volleyball team of Michael Bruning and Jason Wight won the bronze medal on Sunday in Guatemala City, Guatemala, site of the fourth stop on the 2010 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit.
In Sunday’s third-place match, Bruning (Tucson, Ariz.) and Wight (West Springfield, Va.) defeated Mark Lewis and Danny Wilson of Jamaica, 21-14, 21-17.
Bruning and Wight fell to Cuba’s Karell Piña and Sergio González, 21-17, 21-15 in Sunday’s semifinal. Piña and González went on to win the gold medal with a 21-16, 21-14 victory over Jessie Lelliott and Benjamin Saxton of Canada.
Lelliott and Saxton sent Bruning and Wight to the consolation round on Saturday, defeating the U.S. team, 2-1 (21-18, 18-21, 15-10).
Bruning and Wight came back to defeat Dominican Republic’s Yewddys Perez and German Recio, 21-19, 23-21.
