Beach Junior Tour Gets Sunny Start in Brownsville

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 8, 2010) – USA Volleyball’s USA Beach Junior Tour got off to a strong start at the U.S. Border Open on Saturday at the Karch Kourt Volley Cove in Brownsville, Texas.
Local teams dominated the competition. The Under-14 Girls division was won by Serena Patterson and Gabriella Lujano, both of Brownsville.
The Under-16 Girls division was taken by Gloriana Villarreal of Brownsville and Ileah Ortiz of Harlingen, Texas.
Vanessa Scott and Lauren Atkinson, both of Brownsville, took the Girls Under-18 title.
On the boys’ side, Martin Montreal and Mario Perez, both of Brownsville, were the champions.

Sorrento Beach Spring Tourney
A second USA Beach Junior Tour event was held May 8 in Santa Monica, Calif. The Sorrento Beach Spring Tourney brought in teams from around Southern California.
Cassandra Delacruz (Woodland Hills, Calif.) and Danielle Meidan (Granada Hills, Calif.) won the girls under-18 division.
Rachel Cookus (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) and Ellie Tressel (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) took first in the girls under-16 division. Grace Minchin and Juliette Luini, both of Los Angeles, won the girls under-14 division.
Sadey Gray and Sarah Hurst, both of Pacific Palisades, won the girls under-12 division.
Alex Frapech (Woodland Hills, Calif.) and Earnest Chance (Los Angeles) won the boys under-16 division.
