COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 5, 2010) – The USA Volleyball Open National Championships for adults concluded June 5 with 10 of the 26 divisions awarding medals at the Phoenix Convention Center. The tournament, which had 557 teams competing with approximately 6,000 athletes participating, started on May 29.

In the Men’s B Division, Molten Hawaii bounced back from a 25-20, 25-20 loss to Hogan’s Heroes to win 25-18 in the one-set double-final match to win the gold medal. Molten Hawaii had gone the entire tournament without a loss until meeting Hogan’s Heroes in the final round, forcing the one-set playoff. Cheers Volleyball Club placed third for the bronze medal.

Armed Forces needed to win three matches and a one-set playoff by going through the loser’s bracket to win the Men’s BB Division gold medal on Saturday. In the gold final, Armed Forces defeated Moca 25-11, 25-23 to force the one-set playoff, which it won 25-19. Moca had defeated Armed Forces 25-23, 25-23 in the third round on Friday. Wisconsin Great Lakes placed third in the tournament.

Fog Canada 45 Men topped Decker’s 23-25, 25-21, 15-11 in the Men’s 45-and-Over Division championship match, matching the club’s gold medal in the Women’s 45-and-Over Division. Fog Canada 45 overcame a loss in the second round opener to come back to win the gold medal. The division’s bronze medal went to Volley and CIA M45.

Fog Canada 55s held off Kings Mountain Fog 55 27-25, 17-25, 15-12 in the Men’s 55-and-Over Division title match to win the gold medal. Fog Canada 55s lost just one match during the tournament, a three-set contest to Two Men and a Truck in the first-round pool play. E’s Club 55 won the division’s bronze medal.

In the Men’s 65-and-Over Division, Outback Steakhouse 65 defeated Quiksilver Legends JV 25-23, 25-13 in the gold-medal match. Outback Steakhouse 65 lost only two sets during the tournament. Boomers earned the division’s bronze medal.

In a final played on June 4, Mac Magic 75 defeated Spike Force 75s 25-18, 25-16 in the 75-and-Over gold-medal match.

HiLife I downed HiLife II 25-17, 25-21 in the Women’s B title match to win the division’s gold medal. HiLife I lost just two sets during the event. BVA Fire Tornado was honored with the division’s bronze medal.

In Women’s BB, Swagger rallied to defeat Muffin Tops 17-25, 25-15, 15-13 to win the division’s gold medal. In its quarterfinal, semifinal and final match, Swagger needed to overcome a first-set loss to win and remain undefeated in the tournament. Snap Shots earned the bronze medal.

In Women’s 45-and-Over, Fog Canada Masters 45 topped Brazil MIX-45 BLU 25-20, 25-12 in the championship match to win the gold medal. During the tournament, Fog Canada Masters 45 lost just four sets without dropping a single match. Brazil MIX-45 captured the bronze as the South American country pulled in two of the three medals in the division.

BLT collected the Women’s 55-and-Over gold medal by defeating Brazil MIX-55 25-23, 25-15 in the title match. BLT lost just two sets during the entire tournament, one each in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. Novaspace placed third in the division for the bronze medal.

Legacy dominated its 65-and-Over division, including a 25-8, 25-14 victory over California Golden Girls in the gold-medal match. Legacy did not lose a single set during the tournament. Best Friends 65 pocketed the bronze medal for its efforts during the tournament.
