U.S. Boys’ Select A1 Roster Released

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 7, 2010) – USA Volleyball has announced the U.S. Boys’ Select A1 Camp roster. The players will travel to Wisconsin Dells, Wis., on July 20 for a five-day training camp before competing in the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships on July 25-30.

Stanford University Men’s Volleyball Assistant Coach Ken Shibuya will serve as head coach. Shibuya has acquired impressive knowledge for the game through his journey as a coach. Among many accomplishments, Shibuya recently helped Stanford to the NCAA Men's National Collegiate Volleyball Championships. He also was the head coach of Juniata College's men's volleyball program when it won three consecutive Molten Division III Men's Invitational Volleyball Championships. Shibuya was a member of the coaching staff for the U.S. Boys’ Youth Team for four straight years and has served in many levels of the boys' High Performance pipeline.

Joining Shibuya’s staff will be assistant coaches JT Wenger of UCLA, Jeff Hall from University of Pacific, Jonah Carson from UC Santa Cruz, Matt Diaz out of Pacific Palisades and Travis Turner from Balboa Bay Volleyball Club.

The selected players on the roster reside in various regions of the country, but are predominately from California. Seventeen of the 31 players represent Southern California along with one representative from Northern California. The athletes play for the following clubs: San Gabriel, Seaside, SCVC, Manhattan Beach Surf, Pacific Palisades VBC, Balboa Bay VC, 949 Athletics, Orange Coast, Palisades VC and Clovis Volleyball Club.

Along with the young men from California are 14 other favorably selected players. The team will also consist of four USAV participants from the Badger Region, three boys from the Great Lakes Region and two from the Keystone Region. Florida and Arizona will provide the A1 camp team with a player from each region, respectively. The Hawaiian regions, Aloha and Moku Okeawe, also include players on the A1 camp roster.

The U.S. Boys’ Select A1 Camp team will be active in Wisconsin through June 30.
