Beach U23, U26 Teams Warm Up for Turkey

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 13, 2010) – On their way to competing at the World University Championships on June 15-20 in Alanya, Turkey, the U.S. under-23 and under-26 beach volleyball teams played in the AVP Developmental Tour event on June 12 in Long Beach, N.Y.

In the men’s event, the U.S. U26 team of Stafford Slick (Andover, Minn.) and Mark Van Zwieten (Pompano Beach, Fla.) came away with victory in the men’s event, defeating the U.S. U23 team of Tony Ciarelli (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Maddison McKibbin (Honolulu, Hawaii) in the final, 21-15, 16-21, 15-13.

U.S. U26 team member Michelle Moriarty (Houston, Texas) paired with Kim De Cello to win the women’s bracket. Moriarty will play in Turkey with Emily Day (Torrance, Calif.), who had too many AVP points to compete in Long Beach.

The U.S. U23 team of Caitlin Ledoux (Phelan, Calif.) and Jazmin Machado (Encinitas, Calif.) finished fifth in the women’s bracket.

The teams left Sunday for Turkey.
