Fort Lauderdale Hosts Southern Open on USAV Beach Junior Tour

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 16, 2010) – The USAV Beach Junior Tour continued play this past weekend with the Southern Open on June 13 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The event hosted both a girls’ bracket and a boy’s bracket with four age group – under-12,  U14, U16 and U18 – in each.

The girls’ U12 division saw first place go to Cassidy Bonito (Westin, Fla.) and Kaylie McHugh (Davie, Fla.) after defeating Taylor Iantosco (Orlando, Fla.) and Cassidy Chorney (Orlando, Fla.), 18-5. Kylie Roland (Oviedo, Fla.) and Jenna Smith (Winter Springs, Fla.) took third.

Manuela Fernandes and Alexandra Hasner took first in the girls’ U14 division after a 21-17 win over Corinne Gorant (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) and Lauren Valashinas (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) while Brooke McDermott (Miami, Fla.) and Jennifer Cabellos (Miami, Fla.) took home third.

The girls’ U16 division championship was a one set-match victory for Victoria Penrod (Jupiter, Fla.) and Sophia Servideo (Jupiter, Fla.) after defeating Kayla Joyle (Geneva, Fla.) and Julie Brown (Geneva, Fla.), 23-21. Danika Yoder (Venice, Fla.) and Emme Zastopowski (Venice, Fla.) finished third.

Stephanie Pellitteri (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) and Marissa Marazzi (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) defeated Holly Reschke (Naples, Fla.) and Karina Mambaca (Naples, Fla.), 18-15, for first place in the girls' U18 division. Taking third was Katie Mosher (Fort Meyers, Fla.) and Angie Caple (Fort Meyers, Fla.).

In the boys’ U12 division, Eli Rosen (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Ben Ganath (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) took first after defeating Aiden Hancock (Naples, Fla.) and Jacob Kuhlman (Naples, Fla.), 21-15.

Blake Adler (Coral Gables, Fla.) and Matais Lirman (Pine Crest, Fla.) took first place in the boys’ U14 division after defeating Joey Aubrey (Coral Gables, Fla.) and Tyler Smith (Coral Gables, Fla.), 21-14. Coming in third place was Adam Chivacci (Coral Gables, Fla.) and Scott Parker (Pine Crest, Fla.).

The boys’ U16 division saw Justin Turner (Jupiter, Fla.) and Ryan Pino (Jupiter, Fla.) finish first after a 21-10 win over Mackenzie Maney (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Sam Becker (West Palm Beach, Fla.). Robbie Dillon (Miami, Fla.) and Kory Schulz (Miami, Fla.) came in third.

Dave Palm (Miami, Fla.) and Jay Feldman (Parkland, Fla.) were the champions of the boys’ U18 division.
