COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 17, 2010) – USA Volleyball Indoor High Performance Department has selected a logo designed by Daniel Gaines (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) to serve as the visual image for the upcoming 2010 USA Volleyball High Performance Championships that will take place July 25-30 in Wisconsin Dells, Wis.
Gaines submitted his horizontal design as part of the HP Department’s logo contest that opened last month. His red-white-blue logo design incorporates USA Volleyball’s color scheme with three sets of blocking hands behind a net reaching for the USAV ball logo. The winning logo will be used on brochures, signage and website displays publicizing the event.
“We were happy to be able to extend the opportunity to design this year’s logo to our audiences through usavolleyball.org, our Indoor HP Newsletter, Rotations and social media pages,” USA Volleyball Managing Director of Indoor High Performance Tom Pingel said. “Congratulations to Daniel as his logo was chosen from over 30 entries!”
Gaines’ design, one of three finalist logos that appeared on the USAV Facebook page, won the fan vote through an online survey.
“I decided to enter the logo contest when I saw it on the USA Volleyball site, which I check frequently as I follow the updates for the men and women's national teams,” Gaines said. “Admittedly, I don't know as much about the High Performance branch of USAV, but I've been in love with volleyball since I started playing in high school, and I love the idea of helping the sport and its culture grow in the U.S. Actually it would be a dream job to work in marketing the sport of volleyball. It's definitely a product I believe in!”
By submitting the winning logo, Gaines will receive five High Performance shirts with his winning design. But more important, he has expanded his professional portfolio as he looks for work related to his interests.
“I'm currently looking for work in a graphic design position or marketing position, and also thinking about going back to school in those fields,” Gaines said.
