RENO, Nev. (June 25, 2010) – Along with tennis fans and soccer fans alike, parents and spectators of court 18 at the USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships were no stranger to its own set of marathon matches.
The court started with a three-gamer between St. Louis CYC 14 Green and Miz LB 14 Rockstar. CYC took the tight first set 28-26, but LB tightened up their offense and committed a fraction of the errors in the second set that they did in the first and defeated CYC, 25-17.
The third set started off back and forth, but LB eventually topped CYC 15-11.
Next came the faceoff between ASICS MAVS 14 Blue and A5 Mizuno 14-1. MAVS took the first set 25-20 but A5 was not about to give up the fight. After being down 4-0 to start the second set, the team from Atlanta fought to take the lead at 7-6. The set went back and forth between the two teams but A5 topped the Midwest based team, 25-23, to take the match to a third set.
The start of the third set was point-for-point, but A5 pulled ahead and were up 8-6 at the switch. After a side out and two kills from the MAVS outside, they evened up the score 9-9. MAVS eventually pulled ahead and took the match, 15-12.
