USA Volleyball Hands Out First Medals at the Girls' Junior National Championships

RENO, Nev. (June 27, 2010) – Championship court inside the Reno-Sparks Convention Center held its first championship matches of the USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships Sunday in Reno, Nev.

The 14 Open Division was the first to hold a gold-medal match at 10 a.m. Miz LB Rockstar 14 (Southern California), seeded seventh, and Delta Valley 14-1 (Northern California), seeded second, competed for the title. The first set started point-for-point, but Delta Valley gained a distinctive 17-11 lead. Long Beach fought to within one point (when did it come to within one point) of Delta Valley, but it was not enough as Delta Valley won the set 25-23.

Experiencing the USAV Girls’ Junior National Championships for the First Time

RENO, Nev. (June 27, 2010) – The Reno-Sparks Convention Center holds 48 volleyball courts that 808 teams will play on throughout the duration of the tournament. Along with the 9,500 players, there are approximately 1,600 coaches on the sidelines helping their teams to victory. And for some, the experience is unlike anything they ever expected.

“I thought it would be a lot smaller,” Kayla McCarthy of Energy 12 Blue said. “When I walked in, I thought ‘Wow, that’s a lot of volleyball’.”
