RENO, Nev. (July 3, 2010) – The 16 Open, National and American Division club members closed-out the 31st USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships, Saturday, in Reno, Nev.

The 16 Open Division was the first to close the day as fourth-seeded Nebraska Juniors 16-1 (Great Plains) faced third-seeded Skyline 16 Roshambo (North Texas) in the championship match.

The two teams battled back and forth, but Skyline took the sizeable lead in at 11-6. Nebraska Juniors would fight back with three blocks and a kill to get back to within three, 24-21, but Skyline won the set, 25-21.

The second set was all Nebraska Juniors from the beginning as it started the set up 4-1 and held on to the lead throughout the set. Disciplined blocking and flawless serve receive led it to a 25-19 victory.

With the momentum in its favor, Nebraska Juniors came out on fire in the third set. Skyline only made a few errors, but paid the price and lost, 15-11.

Nebraska Juniors defeated top-seeded Sky High 16 Black (Great Lakes) 26-24, 22-25, 15-7 in the semifinal.

To get to the final match, Skyline defeated second-seeded AJV 16 Mizuno (Lone Star) 25-17, 25-20 in the semifinal.

The 16 National Division championship was between fifth-seeded Rolling Thunder 16 Blue (Great Lakes) and sixth seeded Main Beach 16 Gold (Pioneer).  Main Beach led Rolling Thunder early in the set, 8-4. Rolling Thunder came back with touch serving and tied the set up at 16-16. The two teams went point-for-point and were once again tied up at 20-20, but smart ball placement from Main Beach led it to a 25-22 victory.

In the second set, Rolling Thunder maintained its tough serving, but cut down its errors and took a five-point lead. Even though Main Beach fought back, the five-point separation was too much to overcome and Rolling Thunder won, 25-21.

Main Beach came out in the third set having taken the serving from Rolling Thunder and led 8-3 at the switch. Main Beach then went on a 7-2 run to finish the set with a 15-5 victory capped by a service ace.

In the quarterfinal, Main Beach defeated Skyline 16-2 Roshambo (North Texas) 26-24, 25-13. It then defeated NKCYV 16 Tsunami (Ohio Valley), 25-21, 22-25, 18-16, in the semifinal.

The 16 American final was between two Missouri squads, Invasion 16 Black (Heart of America) and STL CYC 16 Green (Gateway).  The first set started point-for-point, but sound blocking and scrappy defense eventually pushed Invasion past CYC, 15-11. Invasion maintained the lead and won the set, 25-19.

The second set was close as the two teams as they went back and forth. With the score tied at 19-all, Invasion netted a 23-20 advantage on tough serving and went on to win 25-21.
