RENO, Nev. (July 3, 2010) – The 31st Annual USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships concluded Saturday at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno, Nev.
“It’s been great,” said USA Volleyball Manager of Events Kristy Cox, who oversees the USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships. “Everyone was very welcoming and excited to host the event for us. The Convention Center was great and they worked really well with us. The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority were really awesome with helping us organize this.”
With 808 teams, an estimated 9,500 players, 20,000 spectators and approximately 300 college coaches, there is a lot of room for potential problems. But with the help of the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority, the Championships went off without a major hitch.
“This was one of our easier events,” Cox said. “Everything seemed to go smoother and easier overall.”
Over 10,000 people flew into the city to observe the championships through July 3 and there was not an empty seat on any of the planes flying in. Every mini-van from all of the rental car companies was rented.
With all of the support from volleyball fans around the country, volleyball and its followers have left an imprint in Reno, an estimated $10.2 million dollar imprint. Reno is working to get another USAV event as soon as they possibly can, and with all of the help from the people that made this event happen, it’s safe to say that Reno will surely be considered for future events.
