EDMOND, Okla. (July 6, 2010) – In less than one week, the U.S. Women’s and Men’s Sitting Volleyball Teams will be working for 2010 Paralympic qualification when they compete at the 2010 Sitting Volleyball World Championships on July 10-18 at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO).

UCO will host the 2010 Sitting Volleyball World Championships with 36 men and women's national teams from 26 countries spanning five continents expected to compete, marking the first time the event has been held in the United States.

The event will bring in a total of 576 athletes, coaches and delegates to UCO's Hamilton Field House and Wellness Center, and will serve as a Paralympic Games qualifier for the top three teams in the men and women's competitions.

The opening ceremonies will be held 7-9 p.m. on July 10 in Hamilton Field House, and competition will begin at 9 a.m. each day, July 11-18. On July 18, a closing celebration will be held at Frontier City, scheduled to begin approximately one hour after the medal ceremonies.

Tickets are available to each ceremony – $10 for the opening and $15 for the closing – along with day passes for each day of competition ($5-10) and special ticket packages through the event web site at www.2010Worlds.com.

Tickets also will be available for purchase on the days of the event at the UCO Hamilton Field House ticket window.

Competing countries include Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Canada, China, Croatia, Egypt, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, India, I.R. Iran, Iraq, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Korea, Libya, Lithuania, Morocco, Netherlands, Russia, Rwanda, Serbia, Ukraine and the United States.

The U.S. Men and Women's Sitting Volleyball Teams both train at Central, which is an official U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Site.

Central is an Olympic training site in the sports of volleyball and archery, and can train any Paralympic sport. The university also currently hosts 12 resident Paralympic athletes in the sports of sitting volleyball, archery, and track and field.

Volunteers are also needed for the event. To view volunteer opportunities, visit www.2010Worlds.com.
