COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 12, 2010) – Jane Croson and Haleigh Hampton of the U.S. Women’s Junior National Volleyball Team received tournament honors after helping their team win gold at NORCECA Women’s Junior (U-20) Continental Championship in Tijuana, Mexico, on Saturday.

The U.S. dominated every team it faced at the tournament, beating each opponent in three sets. The statistics, which decides the all-tournament honors, prove that Team USA is very well-rounded.

Croson (Lakewood, Calif.) was named Best Spiker and MVP of the tournament. Croson contributed 49 kills for Team USA with a tournament-leading 51.58 kill percent and a .400 hitting efficiency. Croson also added four blocks and two aces in the tournament for 55 total points and making her the fourth Best Scorer of the tournament.

Hampton (Huntington Beach, Calif.) averaged a tournament-best 1.27 blocks per set and contributed 19 blocks overall in the tournament matches. She was the 15th Best Scorer, adding 19 kills and four aces for 42 points.

Kelly Reeves (San Diego, Calif.) was the second Best Receiver with 43 excellent serve receptions on 70 attempts and a 61.43 percent efficiency rate. Reeves was also third Best Server of the tournament contributing seven aces on 82 attempts with no faults. Reeves averaged 0.47 aces per set. Reeves also had 41 kills and four blocks, making her the seventh Best Scorer with 52 points.

Carly Wopat (Goleta, Calif.), captain of the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team, was 17th in the Best Scorer category. Wopat added 44 points in 32 kills, eight blocks and four aces.

Liz McMahon (Liberty Township, Ohio) was the 39th Best Scorer, contributing 20 points (19 kills, 1 block).

Jennifer Bonilla (Reseda, Calif.), the 2008 NORCECA Girls’ Youth Continental Championship Best Libero, was the second best digger in this year’s event with 50 digs and 31 excellent receptions. Bonilla averaged 3.33 digs per set.

Molly Kreklow (Delano, Minn.), the 2008 NORCECA Girls’ Youth Continental Championship Best Setter, was this event’s fourth-best setter adding 55 running sets on 265 total set attempts, averaging 3.67 sets per set.

The U.S. Women’s Junior National Team has qualified to the 2011 FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship in Peru by placing first in the NORCECA Women’s Junior (U-20) Continental Championship. Dominican Republic and Cuba, placing silver and bronze, respectively, also earned tickets to the event.
