COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 12, 2010) – USA Volleyball is excited to announce the first ever USAV Beach High Performance Championships to be held July 22-25 in Long Beach, Calif. Athletes will compete with the top players of their age group while rubbing shoulders with professional beach volleyball players such as Misty May-Treanor (Santa Monica, Calif.) and Phil Dalhausser (Ormond Beach, Calif.) who will also be playing with the AVP Long Beach Open.
Participants in the USAV Beach High Performance Championships will include USAV (U-26), Junior, Youth, Select Beach National Teams, A2 Beach National Teams and any additional invitees from the USAV Beach High Performance tryouts and regional nominees.
Any medalists from the AAU, USA Beach Junior Tour, or California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) who are interested in participating in this event may call the USA Volleyball beach office for further details.
The U-26 champions will receive bids to the NORCECA Beach Circuit event on Aug. 25-29 to represent the United States in San Diego, Calif. Amateur divisions (U-17, U-19 and U-21) will receive medals and other prizes.
The age categories for the event include U-26 (born 1985-1989), U-21 (born 1990-1991), U-19 (born 1992-1993) and U-17 (born 1994 and after).
The play will consist of international format match play with no coaching. There will be rally scoring and winners must take the best two out of three sets. The first two sets score to 21 and the third to 15 with no cap. Officials will be provided for most of the playoff matches. Matching uniforms for teams are not required. There is also a five-match guarantee per team.
Registration for the event closes on July 15. The scheduled times for the matches are set for the following: U-17 will compete July 22-24 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., U-19 is set for July 22-24 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., U-21 on July 23-25 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and U-26 on July 24-25 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
