SoCal Open Hosts Beach Junior Event

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 19, 2010) – The USA Volleyball Beach Junior Tour corralled 60 teams from across the country to the SoCal Open on July 17, in Long Beach Calif. Five girls’ divisions, under-12, U14, U16, U18 and U20 and three boys’ divisions, U14, U16 and U18, competed for championships.

Rose Tyler (Sunset Beach, Calif.) and partner Julia Patterson (Los Alamitos, Calif.) defeated Kate Berry (Irvine, Calif.) and Abby Sobe (Irvine, Calif.), 21-8, to take home first place in the girls’ U12 division. Maddie Olea (Long Beach, Calif.) and Chloe Markland (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) finished in third.

Winning the girls’ U14 division was Rebecca Thebeau (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) and partner Rylee Kiger  (Norco, Calif.) after they defeated Payton Chang (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Taylor Rudeen (San Pedro, Calif.), 28-12. Finishing in third place was Kelsy Osgood (Long Beach, Calif.) and Natalie Berkowiz (Long Beach, Calif.).

Taking home first in the girls’ U16 division was Ashley Price (Allen, Texas) and Mackenzie Moore (Arlington, Texas). In the championships match, the duo defeated Emily Hardesty (Plano, Texas) and Sara Mossakowski (Frisco, Texas), 29-27. Coming in third place was Alexis Kenworthy (Santa Monica, Calif.) and Areanna Sabine (Sherman Oaks, Calif.).

Alli Cook (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Kati Duddrid (Santa Ana, Calif.) won first place in the girls’ U18 division after they defeated Nicola Ribisi (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Jace Pardon (Manhattan Beach, Calif.), 28-26. Avery Edwards (Austin, Texas) and partner Hannah Hood (Austin, Texas) came in third.

In the boys’ side of the bracket, Larry Tuileta (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Micah Ma’a (Honolulu, Hawaii) finished in first place of the boys’ U14 division after they topped Louis Richard (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Tanner Smith (Hermosa Beach, Calif.), 28-19. Coming in third were Joe Worsely (Melaga, Calif.) and Gage Worsely (Melaga, Calif.).

Kyle Baily (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Chris Long (Tustin, Calif.) defeated Dillion Hoffman (San Clemente, Calif.) and Chris Orenic (Manhattan Beach, Calif), 28-21, to finish on top of the boys’ U16 division. Finishing third were Braxton Luke (San Clemente, Calif.) and Devon Pflueger (Dara Point, Calif.).

Evan Dean (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) and Taylor Hammond (Mission Viejo, Calif.) won the boys’ U18 division after defeating Ryan Loughlin (Chicaco, Ill.) and Spencer Sauter (Chicago, Ill.), 21-10, 21-17.
