Fuimaono to Replace Sander on Youth Beach Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 22, 2010) – USA Volleyball has released a modified roster for the FIVB Beach Volleyball Youth (U-19) World Championships to be held July 28-Aug.1 in Porto, Portugal.
Brandon Fuimaono (Long Beach, Calif.) will take the place of Taylor Sander (Orange County, Calif.) in an injury substitution on the U.S. Youth Beach Team.
Fuimaono, a Long Beach native, was born on Nov. 22, 1992, and played volleyball at Wilson High School. He will be one of the eight players representing the U.S. at the Championships.
He will be partnering with Parker Kalmbach (Coto De Caza, Calif.), USA 1, alongside David Ryan Vandermeer (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and partner Jace Olsen (Manhattan Beach, Calif.), USA 2, on the boys’ side of the bracket.
Kalmbach is a member of the indoor training team for the 2010 U.S. Men’s Junior National Team that will compete at NORCECA Men’s Junior (U-20) Continental Championship in August. Both he and Olsen competed at the 2009 FIVB Beach Youth World Championships. Kalmbach will continue his volleyball career at Pepperdine beginning in the fall while Olsen will play for Penn State.
Summer Ross (Carlsbad, Calif.)and partner Jane Croson (Lakewood, Calif.), USA 1, will join Lara Dykstra (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) and partner Rebecca Strehlow (Long Beach, Calif.), USA 2, will represent the U.S. girls’.
In 2009, Ross competed in the Junior Beach World Championships.
Ross and Croson have competed together at the FIVB Beach World Championships. They placed fifth at the 2009 FIVB Youth (U-19) Beach World Championships and were the youngest duo to enter the 2008 FIVB Junior (U-21) World Championships, where they finished seventh.
Not only a stand-out on the beach, Croson was a member of the U.S. Women’s Junior Team who won gold at the 2010 NORCECA Women’s Junior (U-20) Continental Championships in Tijuana, Mexico.
Dykstra brings in additional experience as she competed in the 2008 FIVB Youth World Championships for beach volleyball. She has committed to Nebraska.
In 2009, Strehlow was a member of the 2009 U.S. Girls’ Youth Beach Training Team.
