Kessy, Ross Not Out of the Race for Gold

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 23, 2010) – The U.S. beach volleyball team of Jen Kessy and April Ross lost on Friday, but is not out of contention for back-to-back gold medals in Marseille, France at the FIVB World Tour World Series 13.
Kessy (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) and Ross (Costa Mesa, Calif.) were topped by the top-seeded Brazilian team of Maria Antonelli and Talita Da Rocha Antunes, 17-21, 19-21 in 45 minutes in Friday’s fourth round.
The U.S. team will face Doris Schwaiger and Stefanie Schwaiger of Austria, seeded 12th, at 11 a.m. (local time) on Saturday to determine if they continue on to the semifinal. If they lose, they will finish tied for fifth.
If they defeat the Austrian pair, they will play the sixth-seed, Sanne Keizer and Marleen Van Iersel of Netherlands, at 5:30 p.m. (local time) on July 24.
The World Series 13 gold and bronze medal matches will be played on Sunday.
