Kessy and Ross Finish Fifth in France

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 24, 2010) – The U.S. women’s beach volleyball team of Jen Kessy and April Ross finished fifth on Saturday at the FIVB World Tour World Series 13 in Marseille, France.

Kessy (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) and Ross (Costa Mesa, Calif.), seeded fourth in the tournament, were the defending champions, but were defeated by Austria’s 12th-seeded Doris Schwaiger and Stefanie Schwaiger, 21-14, 21-16 in 42 minutes in the final round of consolation on Saturday.

Kessy and Ross moved to the consolation bracket after losing to the top-seeded Brazilian team of Maria Antonelli and Talita Da Rocha Antunes on Friday.

The top U.S. beach teams will be in the capital of the federal state of Carinthia in Austria next week as it hosts the fifth of six Grand Slam events on the 2010 SWATCH FIVB World Tour calendar July 26-August 1.

The US$600,000 Austrian Grand Slam marks the 14th-straight year that the Lake Wörthersee site has hosted the international circuit.
