Beach Junior Tour Travels to Pacific Northwest

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 26, 2010) – The USA Volleyball Beach Junior Tour hosted the Western Open in Seattle, Wash., on July 24. There were five girls’ divisions, under-12, U14, U16, U18 and U20, with 53 teams that competed for championships.

Winning the girls’ U12 division was Aya Bispham (Federal Way, Wash.) and Mae Thungc (Kent, Wash.) after they defeated Madison Gibbons (Spanaway, Wash) and Kyle Ogburn (Graham, Wash.), 30-27. Finishing in third place was Mariah Vargas (Puyallup, Wash.) and Macayla White (Puyallup, Wash.).

Eva Linden (Milton, Wash.) and Reghan Pukis (Tacoma, Wash.) won the girls’ U14 division. They defeated Eastyn Baleto (Seattle, Wash.) and partner Shayne McPherson (Seattle, Wash.), 30-26, in the championship match. Coming in third was Tristyn Smith (Puyallup, Wash.) and Lexi White (Auburn, Wash.).

The girls’ U16 division saw Emily Martinez (Eugene, Ore.) and Victoria McLean (Eugene, Ore.) finish in first after defeating Shelby Kyllo (Anacartes, Wash.) and Jessica Riddle (Coupenille, Wash.), 30-19. Taking third place was Tera Novy (Montesano, Wash.) and Emily Farnham (University Place, Wash.).

Lisa Chulich (Tenino, Wash.) and Nina Holbrooks (Olympia, Wash.) won the girls’ U18 division. They defeated Gabby Bird-Vogel (Mercer Island, Wash.) and Jennica McPherson (Seattle, Wash.), 30-27. Angela Umscheid (Beaverton, Ore.) and Tia Withers (Beaverton, Ore.) came in third place.

Lauren Fisher (Tacoma, Wash.) and partner Victoria Fisher (Tacoma, Wash.) won the girls’ U20 title.
