It’s Bigger Than You, It’s the Red, White and Blue
WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. (July 26, 2010) - Three-time U.S. Olympian Tom Hoff was in the stands on Monday for the opening day of the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships being held July 26-30 in Wisconsin Dells, Wis.
Hoff was captain of the U.S. Men’s Team, which won the gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. He also competed in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. Hoff felt privileged to come speak to the athletes about his journey through volleyball in the opening ceremonies on Sunday night.
“I was talking to some kids out here and it seemed that some of the people were too nervous to come talk to me,” Hoff said. “I am not coming out here to promote myself; I want to promote the journey I have taken. I feel honored to be here and I want the athletes to hear the story of not having instant success. I was an ordinary kid who loved volleyball and earned the right to be a gold medalist for a great country.”

Badger Region Teams Happy to Host
WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. (July 26, 2010) The athletes from the Badger Region are thrilled to have the 2010 USA Volleyball High Performance Championships in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., from July 26-30.
The tournament had opening serve Monday morning and Jenni Fassbender (Kaukauna, Wis.), a member of the Badger Region High Performance Girls Youth Team for two years, appreciated having her family and friends in the stands at the opening match.
Last year in Ft. Lauderdale, not all of the parents and families were able to come, Fassbender said. It is nice to have a big crowd and support system this year. It gives us some publicity, which is great because no one thinks of Wisconsin as a volleyball state.
