Beach Jr. Tour Championships Attract 120 Teams

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 23, 2010) – Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and the USA Volleyball Florida Region hosted 120 teams from 14 states for the 2010 USAV Beach Junior Tour Championships on Sunday.

Teams that qualified for the event in Beach Junior Tour throughout the 2010 season competed in the open division. There was also a national division for teams that did not qualify.

The Beach Junior Tour Championships was the final event of the 22-city tour that began in May.

In the open division, the boys’ under-20 title went to Aaron Hrenak (Kansas City, Mo.) and Brian Main (Lamar, Mo.). They defeated Cody Chidsey (Bath, Pa.) and Kevin Rehm (Bath, Pa.), 30-22 to win the division.

In the girls U18 open division was won by Alexa Stonish (Stoneybrook, N.Y.) and Melanie Pavels (North Woodmere, N.Y.) who defeated Julie Brown (Geneva, Fla.) and Kayla Joyce (Geneva, Fla.) in the final, 21-15. Stephanie Pelliterri (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) and Marissa Marazzi (Fort Meyers, Fla.) finished third with a 21-13 victory.

Dave Palm (Hialea, Fla.) and Jay Feldman (Fort Meyers, Fla.) took the boys’ U18 open division title with a 21-7 victory over Tyler Carnes (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Logan Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio). Scott Witkowski (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Kyle Furrer (Coconut Creek, Fla.) placed third with a 21-18 victory.

Victoria Penrod (Jupiter, Fla.) and Sophia Servideo (Jupiter, Fla.) won the girls’ U16 open division crown with a 21-19 victory over Savanah Davis (Deerfield, Fla.) and Christina Pelletteri (Deerfield, Fla.). Emily Hardesty (Plano, Texas) and Sara Mossakowski (Frisco, Texas) took third with a 21-7 win.

Patrick Thumm (Hollywood, Fla.) and Yoel Benarroch (Hollywood, Fla.) defeated Drew VanZwieten (Pompano Beach, Fla.) and Nico Tuckfield (Coral Springs, Fla.), 22-20 for the boys’ U16 open division title. AJ Logash (Rochester, N.Y.) and Steve O'Dell (Rochester, N.Y.) finished third with a 21-19 win.

The girls’ U14 open division title went to Manuela Fernandez (Miami, Fla.) and Alexandra Hasner (Miami, Fla.), who defeated Jennifer Ceballos (Miami, Fla.) and Brooke McDermott (Miami, Fla.), 21-17. Madison Ligon (Euless, Texas) and Tara Jenkins (Arlington, Texas) finished third.

The boys’ U14 open division crown went to Joseph Figueroa (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Victor Zamudio (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), who won a 21-16 decision over Carlos Jimenez (Miami Beach, Fla.) and Luis Laurido (Miami Beach, Fla.). Jeff Cremeans (Columbus City, Ohio) and Evan Feltz (Columbus City, Ohio) placed third with a 21-13 win.

Courtney Krause (Venice, Fla.) and Hannah Richards (Venice, Fla.) won the girls’ U12 open division championship with a 21-14 win over Kim Alexandra (Daly City, Calif.) and Shannon Richardson (Morgan Hills, Calif.). Kylie McHugh (Davey, Fla.) and Cassidy Bonito (Weston, Fla.) finished third with a 21-11 win.

Ben Granath (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Eli Rosen (Delray Beach, Fla.) won the boys’ U12 open division title with a 30-13 victory over Aidan Hancock (Naples, Fla.) and Jacob Kuhlman (Naples, Fla.).

In the national division, Bree Scarbrough (Sarasota, Fla.) and Taylor Eiken (Sarasota, Fla.) won the girls’ U18 division with a 21-8 victory over Nikki Christiano (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Paige Kniskern (Boca Raton, Fla.). Caroline Atkinson (Orlando, Fla.) and Grace Vega (Orlando, Fla.) finished third with a 21-18 win.

Meghan Conway (Jenson, Fla.) and Daniella Dodge (Stuart, Fla.) won a 21-16 decision over Megan Rice (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Keelan Serverston (Delray Beach, Fla.) to win the U16 division. Teresa Della Penna (Land Of Lakes, Fla.) and Brittany Jack (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) placed third with a 21-13 win.

Ariel Chandler (Delray Beach, Fla.) and Lauren Galinis (Delray Beach, Fla.) won the girls’ U14 division with a 21-12 victory over Sara Putt (Jupiter, Fla.) and Haley Mitchell (Jupiter, Fla.). Vanessa Freire (Orlando, Fla.) and Isa Marcano (Orlando, Fla.) placed third with a 21-12 victory.

Brianna Marazzi (Fort Meyers, Fla.) and Caroline Flaherty (Fort Meyers, Fla.) won the girls’ U12 title with a 21-19 win over Sara Duque (Miami, Fla.) and Samantha Arenas (Miami, Fla.). Jillienne Cangelosi (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Kristen Castleman (Jacksonville, Fla.) finished third with a 21-15 win.
