COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 13, 2010) – USA Volleyball has selected the City of Dallas as the location for its 2011 USA Volleyball Open National Championships to be held May 28-June 4. The Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau will serve as the tournament host.

The 82nd Annual USA Volleyball Open National Championships will take place at the Dallas Convention Center. The USA Volleyball Annual Meetings will also take place in Dallas the week leading up to the USA Volleyball Open National Championships.

Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau Director of Sports Marketing Monica Paul commended the team effort needed to secure the championships.

“We are excited to host the 2011 USA Volleyball Open National Championships here in Dallas, along with the anticipated 6,000 players that will compete in this event,” Paul said. “Dallas has a history of hosting major volleyball events, from USAV events to the 2003 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship. We look forward to continue working with USA Volleyball to host future events.”

Dallas has previously hosted the USA Volleyball Open National Championships in 1960, 1996 and 2002. Other signature USA Volleyball national events staged in Dallas include the 1998 USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships and the 1998 and 2008 USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships.

“Dallas will be a tremendous host city for the 2011 USA Volleyball Open National Championships,” USA Volleyball Managing Director of Events Mike Chandler said. “The athletes work so hard to get this far, and they deserve the best in which the City of Dallas can provide. Dallas will help us deliver a top-notch experience for everyone involved and show that the Metroplex is a great place to play volleyball.”

With an estimated 550-plus teams and 6,000-plus players arriving into the Dallas area, the USA Volleyball Open National Championships are projected to occupy more than 12,000 room nights at area hotels. The event will generate an estimated $4.2 million in direct visitor spending.

USA Volleyball has showcased its USA Volleyball Open National Championships for 81 years since the organization’s founding in 1928. Except for 1943 and 1944 during the height of World War II, the Open has been a mainstay celebrating adult volleyball nationally. The event is one of the largest national championships in any sport in the United States, and the Open has featured the sport of volleyball from coast-to-coast.
