COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 8, 2010) – USA Volleyball’s High Performance Department has announced that it has opened and enabled registration for its 2011 boys’ tryouts.

USA Volleyball has scheduled 14 tryouts in 2011, including two opportunities in Hawaii, beginning on Jan. 7 and ending on March 12. Additional tryouts in Anaheim, Calif., and Salt Lake City, Utah, may be added to the schedule.

The tryout fee is $65 for online registration. Registration via fax or e-mail of scanned registration form costs $75. Online, mailed and faxed registration closes the three days prior to the tryout at 6 a.m. MST. For example, registration would close Thursday at 6 a.m. MST for a tryout on Sunday. Walk-up registration costs $100 per athlete trying out.

Refunds will be given for withdrawing from a tryout, less $20 for administrative cost. Athletes may attend more than one tryout. The full tryout fee applies to each tryout attended. The number of tryouts an athlete attends usually will not affect his evaluation; attending more than one tryout is recommended only if your first tryout performance was for some reason below your potential.

The 2011 U.S. Men’s Junior (born in 1991 and 1992) and Boys’ Youth (born in 1993 and 1994) national teams will compete at the FIVB World Championships for those age groups.

Other top high performance teams will compete at the USAV High Performance Championship on July 26-30 in Tucson, Ariz. These teams will include the Boys’ Select A1 National Team, the Boys’ Select A2 Program and the Boys’ Youth A2 Program.  Also, High Performance will again offer Continental Team Slots to athletes from USAV Regions that don’t run regional high performance teams to the HP Championships.

In 2011, HP will expand the athlete pipeline down to a younger age level by officially recognizing the “Future Select” age group and offering specific summer training programs for these young athletes.  Future Select tryouts will be offered at all locations, and a Future Select Camp will be offered in July, likely to be held at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center.
