COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Dec. 6, 2010) – USA Volleyball has announced that two-time Olympic gold medalist Misty May-Treanor will be attending the USAV Beach CAP Level I course being held Dec. 15-18 in conjunction with the AVCA Convention in Kansas City, Mo.

“Misty’s involvement in USA Volleyball’s Beach CAP program further solidifies our aim of creating the world’s leading beach volleyball coaching program,” said Ali Wood Lamberson, USAV director of beach programs. “We are proud of the Beach CAP program and focused on developing and growing it as the outdoor discipline enters the collegiate, club, and high school arenas.”

May-Treanor will be attending to achieve her Beach CAP Level I certification in Kansas City with the intent of achieving Beach CAP cadre status to teach future USA Volleyball Coaching Education course.

The first Beach CAP cadre training took place Nov. 12-14 in El Segundo, Calif. Those who attended the inaugural course as participants were international beach player Tyra Turner, 1968 Olympian Butch May (Misty’s father), UC Irvine men’s coach and beach coach John Speraw, Olympic beach coach Anna Collier, Olympic beach coach Dane Selznick, 1996 Olympian and Olympic beach coach Mike Dodd and 1988 Olympian and top indoor and beach coach Angela Rock.

“We are all going to benefit from this program, as we will be able to enlighten young minds,” Butch May said of the weekend course. “USAV is taking beach volleyball in a good direction.”

There is still time to register for the USAV Beach CAP Level I course in Kansas City. You must also register to attend the full AVCA Convention to be eligible to attend the course.
