COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Feb. 10, 2011) – USA Volleyball has hired Denise Sheldon as a coordinator within the organization’s Indoor High Performance Program.

Sheldon will be responsible for programs associated with the USA Volleyball High Performance Boys’ and Girls’ Select and Future Select age groups. She will also serve lead staff person working with USA Volleyball Regional Volleyball Associations and program development of Region High Performance programs. Sheldon will officially begin her duties on Feb. 10 at the USA Volleyball headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colo.

“We are very excited about the prospect of Denise joining the HP Department,” USA Volleyball Managing Director of Indoor High Performance Programs Tom Pingel said. “Given her high level of experience with High Performance programs, both at the National and Regional levels, we look for her to hit the ground running and make an immediate impact on our programs.”

“I am thrilled to join the passionate and professional team of individuals in the High Performance Department of USA Volleyball,” Sheldon said. “I value my experiences participating in High Performance Programs as a coach and am excited to turn my energy to the administration of the Select and Future Select age groups. In addition, the chance to support and work to grow the Regional High Performance Programs across the country is exciting and will offer more athletes the opportunity to participate in High Performance Programs.”

Sheldon has served as club director and head coach of Redwood City, Calif.-based Peninsula Juniors Volleyball Club since August 2009. In her role, she directed a club with 12-14 youth volleyball teams for boys and girls. Sheldon also served as head coach and technical advisor for Peninsula Juniors. She was responsible for implementing comprehensive technique and system guidelines for the club’s 25 staff coaches.

Meanwhile, Sheldon has also been active within the USA Volleyball High Performance pipeline since January 2009. She has worked as a coach with the Girls’ Youth and Girls’ Select age groups at USAV High Performance Camps.

Sheldon served as a coach within the Northern California Volleyball Association High Performance Program since February 2007. While with NCVA HP, she has trained NCVA Regional Youth High Performance teams for competition at the 2009 and 2010 USA Volleyball High Performance Championships. Sheldon also worked as a head coach and assistant coach on teams that competed in the Global Challenge.

Sheldon completed her USA Volleyball Coaching Accreditation Program (CAP) Level III certification in January 2011. She is a USA Volleyball CAP IMPACT course instructor and member of the USA Volleyball Grassroots Commission.

Sheldon started her volleyball coaching background as an undergraduate student assistant at University of Nevada at Reno. She has also served as head coach at St. Francis Central Coast Catholic High School (Watsonville, Calif.) from 2004 to 2009. Sheldon was the founder and director of Pacific Performance Volleyball Club in which she served as club director and coach from 2006 to 2009.

Sheldon was graduated from University of Nevada at Reno in May 2003 with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology with a minor in criminal justice. She later went on to earn her master of science in sports management at American Public University (Charles Town, W.V.) in August 2010.
