COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Feb. 14, 2010) – Eighteen coaches participated in USA Volleyball’s Beach Coaching Accreditation Program (BCAP) course on Feb. 12-13 at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
The attendees, including former FIVB tour champion and AVP most valuable player Jose Loiola, studied practicum in Teaching the Fundamental Skills, Motor Skill Learning Theory, Coaching Principles/Foundations, Developing the Coaching Philosophy, Ethics and Athlete Safeguards, Drill Design, Practice Preparation and Execution, and Basic Offensive/Defensive/Serve-Receive Organization Systems.
"Many people don't realize that playing beach volleyball and coaching beach volleyball are two very different things,” Loiola said. “To coach you must learn to see things through a different set of eyes. The BCAP experience has been priceless in helping me learn how to do this."
Olympian and beach volleyball coach Angela Rock attended the clinic as a special guest.
“This has been a great group of coaches; eager to learn and share ideas,” said Ali Wood Lamberson, USA Volleyball director of beach programs. “I am looking forward to seeing each of them grow the beach game in their regions and beyond."
