Women's Beach Teams to Compete in IDQ

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 17, 2011) – Fourteen elite U.S. women’s beach volleyball teams will open the 2011 pro season at the USA Volleyball International Development Qualifier (IDQ) on March 19-20 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
The teams will be competing for prize money, USAV Beach National Ranking points and bids to upcoming NORCECA Beach Circuit events in Dominican Republic and Mexico.
Heather Lowe (Cypress, Calif.) and Tealle Hunkus (Girard, Ohio), champions of the 2011 Manhattan Open, will be the top seeds. Other top teams competing include Jen Snyder (Glendale, Ariz.)/Tracy Lindquist-Jones (Fountain Valley, Calif.) and Jenny Kropp (Grand Island, Neb.)/Whitney Pavlik (Laguna Beach, Calif.).
Admission is free. Spectators are welcome and should enter through the Visitors’ Entrance on Olympic Parkway.
The tournament will use the FIVB format of pool play to single elimination. Pool play and the first round of playoffs will take place on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The quarterfinals and finals will be played on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the finals set to start at noon.
The tournament will be played in the rain, but not if there is lightning.
