HOUSTON (April 8, 2011) – The 2011 National Collegiate Club Volleyball Championship (NCVF) is showcasing the sport of volleyball in its purest sense this weekend at Reliant Park in Houston. The NCVF, in cooperation with USA Volleyball, is running the event for the second consecutive year with 336 teams competing in nine different divisions.

The three-day event will conclude on Saturday, April 9, with championship matches in nine divisions starting at 11:45 a.m. The top division title matches are expected to draw between 2,500 and 3,000 spectators on the championship court. The entire event is free to the public to attend.

Away from the limelight of varsity volleyball competition at the NCAA, NAIA and two-year college levels, the approximately 4,000 collegiate club players and coaches who have descended on Houston this weekend are competing for the sheer joy and passion it brings. Athletic scholarships do not drive their desire to play, but simply the competition in the sport they love. For many schools competing in the event, the players have paid their own way to Houston without a per diem for food and lodging that their fellow classmates receive in varsity programs. But the players competing in the NCVF share many things in common, including the chase for a national championship while working toward a collegiate degree.

The tournament field, a 70-team increase over last year’s event held in Louisville, includes 180 men’s teams and 156 women’s teams separated into nine divisions.
