Eight Schools to Compete in College Beach Tourney

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 14, 2011) – Teams from eight schools are registered for the Third Annual USA Volleyball Beach Collegiate Challenge on April 16 at Hermosa Beach, Calif.

The USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge, which will take place south of the Hermosa Beach Pier, will have two separate divisions: a Collegiate Division and a Fours Exhibition.

Twenty-six doubles teams and three fours squads representing USC, Cal State Long Beach, Pepperdine University, Fresno State, UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, Concordia University in Irvine and Oxnard College are registered to compete.  

The competition is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Finals are scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. Admission is free. The tournament will open with pool play and advance to single elimination.

In Florida, the Fiesta on Siesta Key on April 16 will include teams from the University of Florida, St. Petersburg College, Webber International University, Florida Christian College, the University of North Florida, Florida Atlantic University, Warner University, Lake Sumter Community College, the State College of Florida, Ave Maria University, the University of Miami and the University of Central Florida.

In Colorado, the College Sand 2x2 Tourney in Broomfield will bring together teams from seven schools: Adams State, Colorado School of MInes, Johnson and Wales, Metro States, Regis, University of Colorado - Colorado Springs and Western State.

High Performance Tryout

A USAV Beach High Performance Tryout open to all athletes ages 12-25 will be held on Sunday, April 17 in Hermosa Beach. This is an official USA Volleyball National Team tryout.

Collegiate players are eligible to participate during the school year and collegiate institutions may provide actual and necessary expenses related to participation in one tryout.
