COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 17, 2011) – The U.S. women’s beach volleyball team of Lauren Fendrick (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Brooke Hanson (Woodland Hills, Calif.) won the country quota playoffs on Sunday to advance to Monday’s qualifying round of the Brasilia Open in Brazil.
Fendrick and Hanson defeated compatriots Brittany Hochevar (Fowler, Colo.) and Jen Fopma (Bellflower, Calif.), 22-20, 21-17 in 37 minutes to advance at the opening event of the 2011 SWATCH FIVB World Tour.
Three teams from Brazil (Renata Ribeiro/Michelle Soares, Luana Madeira/Liliane Maestrini and Priscilla Lese Lima/Angela Vieira) also qualified from the country quota playoff along with one from Germany (Karla Borger/Britta Buthe).
The women’s qualifying round begins Monday. The men’s qualifying round will follow on Tuesday.
